Udaipur Rural Congress Issues Strong Statement on Aravalli Protection

Udaipur | Amid nationwide protests following the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s order related to the Aravalli mountain range, the Udaipur Rural District Congress Committee has issued a strong statement expressing serious concern over the future of the Aravallis.

District Congress President Raghuveer Singh Meena said that the Aravalli range is not only under threat from mining mafias but also from big industrial houses that are allegedly preparing to take control of these hills and surrounding lands. He emphasized that a major portion of the Aravallis lies in Rajasthan, and within the state, the Mewar region will be the most affected by the decision.

Recalling history, Meena said that the great Maharana rulers of Mewar protected the pride, environment, and identity of the region while living in the shelter of the Aravalli hills. He alleged that the recent decision has been taken on the basis of reports submitted by BJP-led governments at the Centre, Rajasthan, and Haryana. “This is not merely a mining issue; it is a calculated attempt to open the Aravallis for large-scale commercial exploitation,” he said.

Calling the Aravallis a natural protective shield, Meena warned that weakening this ancient mountain range would lead to severe environmental damage and pose serious risks to future generations. He urged the youth to actively participate in the movement—both on social media and on the ground—to pressurize the Centre and state governments to reconsider the decision. He also appealed to the Chief Minister to strongly present Rajasthan’s case before the Supreme Court in favour of Aravalli conservation if the government truly stands with the people.

Udaipur Rural District Congress spokesperson Dr. Sanjeev Rajpurohit reminded that during the Rajasthan Assembly elections, the BJP had promised in its manifesto to work with the Centre to develop the Aravallis as a “Green Corridor.” “Today, the same governments appear to be converting it into an illegal mining corridor,” he alleged.

Highlighting the scientific importance of the Aravalli range, Dr. Rajpurohit said that the Aravallis are not just hills but the lifeline of Rajasthan and several other states. “Scientifically, the Aravalli is a continuous mountain system. Even its smaller hillocks are as vital as the taller peaks. Removing even a single link can weaken the entire structure,” he said.

He further explained that the Aravallis act as a natural ‘green wall,’ preventing the spread of the Thar Desert’s sand and scorching hot winds towards Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and other fertile regions. “If mining is allowed in smaller hills, desertification will accelerate, temperatures will rise, and the consequences will be disastrous,” Dr. Rajpurohit warned.

The Congress leaders reiterated that protecting the Aravalli range is essential not only for environmental balance but also for the survival and well-being of future generations.
