*Udaipur, The Pacific Medical College and Hospital in collaboration with the Department of Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) and the Mewar Research Foundation recently hosted the prestigious L.H. Hiranandani AOI National Midterm Conference. This three-day event witnessed the convergence of over 350 top medical specialists from various parts of India, all of whom congregated to discuss and showcase cutting-edge developments in ENT treatments.
The conference's Secretary, Dr. S.S. Kaushik, shed light on several groundbreaking advancements presented during this event. Notably, Padmashri Dr. J.M. Hass introduced a new technique known as "Electronic Free Implant" for cochlear implants. This revolutionary approach, a live surgery demonstration, showcased the implantation of a 1.4 mm tunnel under the scalp without any electronic components, ensuring unparalleled durability.
The conference also featured Dr. Satish Jain, who explored the rarity of angiofibroma in children, and Dr. Ramalingam, who demonstrated stepdotoamy using an endoscopic technique. Additionally, Dr. H. Vijendra discussed the treatment of tympanosclerosis, while Dr. S.P. Duve performed a live surgery to remove eye tumors using the endonasal DCR technique. Dr. Sanjay Agrawal introduced a novel method for ear membrane surgery that does not require an incision.
Dr. Kaushik emphasized that the conference brought together senior physicians and postgraduate students from across India, allowing them to share their research findings and experiences. One of the conference's highlights was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. P.C. Jain, a distinguished expert in the field.
The conference chairperson, Richa Gupta, explained that the event provided a platform for in-depth discussions and guest lectures on innovative treatments, including rhinotillexis, and auricular and tympanoplasty. It also featured a quiz and poster presentation competition, where various management techniques in head and neck cancers, opioid management, robotic surgery in ENT, and the latest technologies in ENT treatments were thoroughly examined.
