Paras Health Udaipur Revives Comatose Stroke Patient with Complex Brain Surgery Beyond Standard Treatment Window

Udaipur: In a rare and high-risk neurological intervention, Paras Health Udaipur successfully treated a 65-year-old man who had slipped into a coma following a severe brain stroke, even after the standard treatment window had elapsed. The case highlights the availability of advanced neuro-interventional care in southern Rajasthan.

The patient was admitted in critical condition several hours after the onset of symptoms, making conventional clot-dissolving therapy ineffective. Medical investigations revealed complete blockage of a major brain artery, cutting off blood supply to vital areas and necessitating ventilator support.

Considering the complexity and urgency of the case, the neurology team at Paras Health decided to perform a mechanical thrombectomy—an advanced procedure to physically remove the blood clot from the blocked artery—after detailed brain imaging and neurological assessment, despite the delayed presentation.

Senior Neurology Consultant Dr. Tarun Mathur stated that timely clinical judgment is crucial in complex stroke cases, adding that selected patients can benefit from advanced interventions even beyond standard timelines.

Remarkably, within 48 hours of the procedure, the patient regained consciousness and began responding neurologically. He was later weaned off ventilator support and is currently recovering with gradual improvement in limb strength and movement.

Facility Director Dr. Prasoon Kumar emphasized that integrated emergency response, advanced neuro-imaging and interventional expertise enabled this success, reaffirming Paras Health Udaipur’s capability to deliver metro-level stroke care locally.
