Udaipur:In a remarkable medical achievement, Paras Health Udaipur successfully performed a brain tumor surgery on a 36-year-old woman, Seema Devi, using the advanced Awake Craniotomy technique. During the procedure, the patient remained fully conscious and calm, listening to Hanuman bhajans, while doctors safely removed the entire tumor without causing any neurological damage.

The surgery stands out as a rare and unique case, demonstrating that advanced neurosurgical procedures—once limited to metro cities—are now being successfully carried out in Udaipur. Notably, the patient was discharged just a few hours after surgery, without the need for ventilator support or ICU admission.

Seema Devi had been suffering from persistent headaches and recurrent vomiting for nearly three months. Initially treated as a migraine case, her symptoms did not improve. Further investigation through an MRI scan revealed the presence of a brain tumor, causing significant concern for the patient and her family.

After thorough evaluation, Senior Neurosurgeon Dr. Ajit Singh at Paras Health Udaipur recommended Awake Craniotomy, a specialized surgical technique in which the patient remains awake during critical phases of the operation. This allows surgeons to continuously monitor brain functions related to speech and movement, especially when tumors are located near sensitive areas.

“Awake craniotomy is extremely beneficial for tumors located close to areas responsible for speech or movement. By interacting with the patient during surgery, we ensure that vital brain functions remain protected while removing the tumor as safely as possible,” said Dr. Ajit Singh.

Dr. Singh added that the patient experienced no impact on speech or mobility after surgery, and has recovered well. He has successfully performed over 20 awake craniotomy procedures, reflecting his growing expertise in this complex field.

The success of the surgery was supported by the anesthesia team led by Dr. Abeer Hussain, whose role was crucial in maintaining patient comfort and stability throughout the procedure. Additionally, the use of advanced neuro-navigation technology ensured high precision and enhanced surgical safety, minimizing recovery time and eliminating the need for prolonged ICU care.

Facility Director of Paras Health Udaipur, Dr. Prasoon Kumar, stated,

“Our goal is to ensure that people from Udaipur and surrounding regions do not have to travel to distant metro cities for advanced medical treatment. This successful surgery reflects our team’s capability and our commitment to providing world-class healthcare closer to home.”

Paras Health Udaipur continues to strengthen its neurosurgery services, with a strong focus on safe surgeries, faster recovery, and early discharge. Today, several complex brain surgeries that were once possible only in major metropolitan hospitals are being performed successfully in Udaipur, bringing advanced healthcare within reach of the local population.
