High-impact digital solutions to receive support over the next three years
New Delhi: Reliance Foundation and Gates Foundation have announced the launch of the “SheConnects Digital Accelerator,” an initiative aimed at enhancing women’s digital participation. The ₹200 crore programme seeks to improve access to and usage of digital technology among women and girls in India and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Over the next three years, the initiative will focus on identifying and scaling locally relevant and impactful digital solutions that can help improve women’s lives and livelihoods.
Under the programme, Reliance Foundation will support and expand digital solutions in India that have already demonstrated positive impact. In collaboration with the Gates Foundation, the initiative will also promote the exchange of experiences and learnings between India and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Speaking on the occasion, N. Deepti Reddy, Chief – Women Empowerment at Reliance Foundation, said that providing women with the necessary tools and confidence to fully participate in the digital world is essential for building a better future. She added that the initiative will work towards improving women’s digital access and empowering them further.
Sachi Bhalla, Deputy Director – Gender Equality at the Gates Foundation, stated that women across many countries in the Global South still face significant barriers in accessing digital technology. She said the initiative would create opportunities to promote solutions tailored to local needs.
According to Reliance Foundation, its digital initiatives have reached more than 600,000 women across India over the past three years. The new programme also aims to contribute towards the global goal of reducing the digital gender gap by half by 2030.
