Pacific University Organizes Diabetes Awareness Campaign

In his welcome address at the program inauguration, Pacific University President Prof. K. K. Dave highlighted that India has the world's highest 10 crore diabetic patients, making it imperative to initiate preventive measures promptly. The objective of the awareness campaign is to proactively identify signs of diabetes in healthy individuals, determine if they are on the border of high sugar levels, and encourage lifestyle improvements to prevent the onset of diabetes.

Dr. K. R. Sharma, Head of the General Medicine Department at Pacific Medical College and Hospital, emphasized that diabetes is a disease that leads to several other health issues. Maintaining a disciplined lifestyle, regulating calorie intake, and timely medication are crucial to keeping diabetes under control, allowing individuals to lead a normal life.

Prof. R. K. Sharma from the Endocrinology Department highlighted common symptoms of diabetes, such as frequent urination, increased hunger, blurred vision, excessive thirst, fatigue, and irritability. He stressed the importance of not ignoring these symptoms and seeking prompt advice from a medical professional.

Prof. Jagdish Vishnoi from the Medicine Department suggested that adopting a balanced diet can reduce the probability of diabetes by up to 58%, and regular exercise can further decrease the likelihood by 72%. He recommended a colorful plate, incorporating various food items like lentils, rice, bread, yogurt, green vegetables, salads, and fruits. Specific benefits of pomegranate, raw papaya, and jamun for diabetic patients were also highlighted.

Concluding the program, Pacific Group President Prof. B. P. Sharma expressed gratitude to the medical college and hospital's doctors and nursing staff for their skilled services. The event was attended by Prof. P. Choudhary, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, and other faculty members. The program was hosted by Maya Sharma.
