These developments are laying a strong foundation for a knowledge-based economy.

Yet, every milestone brings new challenges. While Vikram-1's maiden mission has been successful, sustainable success in the space industry requires consistency rather than a single achievement. Skyroot Aerospace must now compete with established global players such as SpaceX, Rocket Lab, and several rapidly growing private Chinese space companies. Securing regular customers, ensuring timely launches, maintaining cost competitiveness, achieving high reliability, and eventually developing reusable launch technologies will determine its long-term success. In the space business, credibility is built through repeated excellence. This historic accomplishment also raises an important concern: Can ISRO retain its finest scientific talent? In recent years, several experienced scientists have been drawn towards the private sector—not merely because of higher salaries, but also due to greater research freedom, faster decision-making, improved work culture, and stronger support for innovation.

ISRO has earned worldwide admiration through landmark missions such as Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan, Aditya-L1, and the upcoming Gaganyaan programme. Achieving world-class results despite limited resources has become its hallmark. However, if a gradual migration of scientific talent continues, India's long-term research capabilities and national space ambitions could face challenges. Therefore, ISRO's greatest responsibility today extends beyond launching new missions—it must also inspire, reward, and retain exceptional scientific minds. The government should strengthen ISRO by introducing globally competitive compensation, state-of-the-art research infrastructure, greater institutional autonomy, and policies that actively encourage innovation. Rather than fostering competition between public institutions and private enterprises, India should build a collaborative ecosystem. Just as NASA and SpaceX complement one another in advancing America's space ambitions, a strong partnership between ISRO and India's private space companies can propel the country towards global leadership.

Equally important is the need to bring space science into schools and universities. Science must become a national movement rather than remain confined to laboratories. Young scientists, engineers, and innovators should be encouraged to embrace entrepreneurship through targeted support for space technology startups. If every state establishes Space Technology Innovation Centres, strengthens research partnerships between universities and industries, and expands investments in advanced space technologies, India could emerge as one of the world's foremost centres of space innovation within the next decade. To prepare the foundation for future achievements, several strategic initiatives deserve priority:
