Udaipur: A meeting of the Kalika Patrolling Unit was held on Tuesday at the District Collectorate auditorium in Udaipur under the “Policing for Care of Children” program. The initiative is jointly organized by Udaipur Range Police and UNICEF Rajasthan to strengthen child protection in the state.
The meeting was graced by Cynthia McCaffrey and District Superintendent of Police Dr. Amrita Duhan. The primary objective was to share experiences of teams working in child safety and to encourage their efforts.
Cynthia McCaffrey praised the impactful work of the Kalika Patrolling Unit, stating, “Because of you, we all feel safe.” She highlighted that ensuring safety at public places, schools, colleges, and crowded areas is a crucial responsibility that the team is fulfilling effectively.
She described the self-defense training programs conducted in schools as extremely valuable, noting that such initiatives have boosted children’s confidence, enabling them to participate fearlessly in education and other activities. She also commended the team’s trustworthy and admirable role in the community.
SP Dr. Amrita Duhan emphasized that child protection is a collective moral responsibility requiring active participation from the community, police, and social organizations. She appreciated the Kalika Patrolling Team for their sensitive and ground-level work in ensuring children’s safety.
She also pointed out that Udaipur, being a major tourist destination, requires special attention to the safety of both locals and visitors. She urged UNICEF to support the team with advanced technological resources to make their operations more efficient.
K. L. Narasimha Rao stated that the police unit is doing commendable work not only in ensuring safety but also in empowering children, making it a model example of community policing.
Child protection expert Dr. Sanjay Kumar Nirala explained the structure and functioning of the Kalika Patrolling Unit in Rajasthan and emphasized that timely intervention and a sensitive approach can prevent serious issues. He also stressed the importance of continuous training and awareness.
Guest speaker Michael noted that globally, community participation is considered the most effective way to ensure child safety and praised the team’s dedication.
State Child Protection Consultant Sindhu Binujit discussed strategies to strengthen the child protection system, emphasizing coordination among departments to ensure a safe environment for children.
Representatives from the Kalika Patrolling Team and Tourist Patrolling Team also shared their experiences during the session.
Earlier in the day, dignitaries interacted with students at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Badgaon. CI Deepika Rathore and SHO Hitesh Yadav shared detailed information about safety and awareness programs conducted in schools.
Students spoke about what they learned through Vatsal Varta sessions and self-defense training, and asked insightful questions. Cynthia McCaffrey was impressed by the students’ intelligence and curiosity, responding warmly to their queries.
A student artist, Anamika, presented sketches of Cynthia and K. L. Narasimha Rao, which deeply impressed the guests. The school’s Principal, Mrs. Geeta Sharma, welcomed the dignitaries, while Vice Principal Mrs. Neha Kudal coordinated the program and highlighted the school’s achievements. Students also presented handmade gifts to the guests.
