Girl Students Learned About Solar Cooker and Water Harvesting

Inspired by **Dr. Anil Kothari**, Principal of Guru Nanak PG College, NSS girl students visited **Arvind Nagar**, where they learned about the working of a solar cooker from **Dr. Manju Jain**, a “Solar Woman” who has been cooking food using a solar cooker for the past **42 years**.

When the students saw a solar cooker for the first time, they showed great curiosity and asked Dr. Manju Jain how it is used for cooking food. She explained that almost all kinds of dishes can be prepared in a solar cooker, including *dal-rice, dal-baati, khichdi, daliya, rawa, rajma, samosa, kachori, gram flour and wheat laddoos, biscuits, cakes,* and many other food items. She described the solar cooker as a boon for working women, as it saves time, eliminates the need to stand near a gas stove for long hours, and uses free solar energy.

### Demonstration of Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting

The students were also shown a **rooftop rainwater harvesting system** in which a **Dewas filter**, installed for the past **25 years**, is being used to recharge a tubewell. **Dr. P. C. Jain, Jal Mitra**, explained the system in detail and emphasized that since we take water from nature, we must also give back to nature, so that future generations continue to receive clean and pure water.

At the end of the program, **Dr. P. C. Jain** recorded video interviews of all the students as part of the **De-addiction Campaign**. The students pledged to remain actively associated with the addiction-free movement at all times.

**Dr. Anita Paliwal**, NSS In-charge, actively participated in the program. Students **Charvi Dharwal, Mahima Swarnkar, Kinjal Jangid, Yashika Sharma, Payal Deora, Kritika Joshi, and Tanisha Patel** took active part in all three activities—*“Death of an Addict,” “Understanding the Solar Cooker,”* and *“How to Do Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting.”*

Dr. Anita Paliwal expressed her gratitude to **Dr. Manju Jain** and **Dr. P. C. Jain** for their valuable guidance and support.
