Udaipur: Due to several initiatives taken by India Post in the parcel and e-commerce sectors, the department has recorded a 36.5% increase in parcel revenue by January 2026 compared to the previous year.
This information was provided in the Rajya Sabha by Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, in response to a question raised by Chunnilal Garasiya, Member of Parliament.
The Minister stated that the Department of Posts has launched several initiatives to strengthen parcel and e-commerce services with the aim of transforming India Post into a major public logistics organization. Under the Advanced Postal Technology (APT) Project 2.0, services such as real-time tracking, OTP-based delivery, and API integration with e-commerce platforms have been implemented.
He further explained that through the Mail and Parcel Optimization Project (MPOP), technologies such as automation, standardized workflows, and parcel sorters have been introduced. The department has also formed partnerships with major companies including Amazon, Shiprocket, Decathlon, and DTDC. In addition, the department has integrated with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform.
To promote exports from MSMEs, artisans, and small businesses, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, Dak Export Centres have also been established.
Continuous technological improvements have significantly increased parcel traffic. The parcel revenue figures were:
₹431.52 lakh in 2022–23
₹578.42 lakh in 2023–24
₹712.01 lakh in 2024–25
The Minister added that through the All-India Road Transport Network, the department covers approximately 62,000 kilometers daily. A total of 234 nodal delivery centres have been established across 145 cities, and about 30% of parcel deliveries are carried out using mechanized vehicles. Additionally, eight semi-automated sorting systems are capable of processing up to 2,500 parcels per hour.
