Udaipur: On the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, the proactive efforts of the district administration, along with the support of various organizations, led to significant success in preventing child marriages in Udaipur and several other districts of the state. Under a special campaign, a total of 10 child marriages were stopped in a single day, with the administration playing a key role.
The campaign, led by the district administration in collaboration with Gayatri Seva Sansthan and Just Rights for Children, resulted in the prevention of 6 child marriages in Udaipur district, 2 in Pratapgarh, and 2 in Sikar. Acting promptly on received information, the police and concerned departments reached the locations and stopped the marriages.
As part of efforts to protect children’s rights, the administration has appealed to the public to report any information about child marriages. A reward of ₹1100 will be given for providing such information, and the identity of the informant will be kept confidential.
Under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, conducting or assisting in a child marriage is a punishable offense. Strict legal action will be taken against all those involved, including family members, wedding guests, marriage hall operators, caterers, band operators, and anyone officiating the marriage.
In Bhesra Khurd (under Dabok police station area) in Udaipur district, a joint operation by the administration and police successfully stopped 6 child marriages. During the action, one boy and one girl were rescued and placed in a safe location. Preventive action was also taken against the individuals involved.
The district administration made it clear that harmful practices like child marriage will not be tolerated under the guise of auspicious occasions such as Akshaya Tritiya. In collaboration with panchayats, schools, and social organizations, a widespread awareness campaign is being conducted to make the district free from child marriage.
A helpline number, 823999288, has been issued under the campaign to report child marriages. The administration has urged citizens to come forward and cooperate in eliminating this social evil to ensure a safe and better future for children.
