Two-Day National Seminar on Rajasthan’s Military Tradition and Heritage Inaugurated at Sukhadia University

Udaipur: A two-day national seminar on the theme “Rajasthan’s Military Tradition and History: Valor, Strategy and Cultural Heritage” was inaugurated at Bappa Rawal Auditorium under the joint aegis of the Department of History, Mohanlal Sukhadia University, and the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation.

At the outset, Head of Department Prof. Digvijay Bhatnagar delivered the welcome address, while seminar coordinator Dr. Manish Shrimali introduced the theme and outlined the objectives of the seminar. A documentary on the Battle of Haldighati was also presented.

Chief Guest MP Dr. Manna Lal Rawat highlighted the significance of Mewar’s values of religion, duty, devotion, and sacrifice. He also emphasized the importance of various regions of Mewar and explained the military wisdom of the Bhil culture of South Rajasthan.

The keynote speaker, renowned military history expert Prof. Ravindra Kumar Sharma, shed light on the military heritage of Rajasthan and Mewar through various historical references. He discussed key achievements from Bappa Rawal to Maharana Pratap, including Pratap’s hospitality and respect towards guests. He stressed the need for new historical research and also referred to instances of praise for Maharana Pratap by Emperor Akbar. He suggested new research areas related to Pratap and proposed the establishment of a “Pratap Peeth.”

Special guest Prof. Shiv Kumar Mishra discussed various battles of Rajasthan and shared new historical references related to Prithviraj Chauhan and Maharana Sanga.

Distinguished guest Lt. Gen. N.K. Singh explained contemporary strategic issues in relation to historical battles such as Haldighati and Devair, the role of women in warfare, and guerrilla warfare strategies, highlighting Rajasthan’s rich legacy of valor.

Presiding over the session, Prof. Madan Singh Rathore, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, spoke about sacrifice for the motherland, Kshatriya traditions, and principles of warfare in Indian culture. He also highlighted the glorious martial traditions of Marwar.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Pratibha.
