Udaipur, : A frightening incident involving a two-year-old child was successfully handled by doctors at Pacific Medical College & Hospital (PMCH), Bhilon Ka Bedla, Udaipur. The medical team saved the life of a toddler after safely removing a sharp iron L-key from his stomach through endoscopy.

According to reports, two-year-old Jayraj, a resident of Gangapur in Bhilwara district, was playing at home when the incident occurred. His father works as a car mechanic and keeps a toolbox at home. While his mother was busy in the kitchen, the child started playing with the tools and accidentally swallowed a hard iron L-key.

Soon after, the child began facing severe breathing difficulty. The family rushed him to a nearby private hospital, from where he was referred to Bhilwara and later to Udaipur due to the seriousness of the condition. On reaching PMCH Bhilon Ka Bedla, Gastroenterologist Dr. Mayank Ameta immediately ordered an X-ray and CT scan, which confirmed that the iron tool was stuck inside the stomach.

Dr. Ameta explained that removing a sharp metal object through endoscopy is extremely risky because it can damage the food pipe or windpipe, leading to life-threatening complications. However, using advanced facilities and expert care, the team successfully removed the object without performing surgery.

The procedure was carried out by the Gastroenterology team including Dr. Ashish Mehta and Dr. Mayank Ameta, with support from anesthesiologist Dr. Garima Bhandari, endoscopy technicians Vijay and Azeem, and nursing staff Lavisha, Krishna and Naresh. Their timely intervention not only saved the child’s life but also prevented a major surgical operation. The child has now fully recovered and has been discharged from the hospital.

PMCH Chairman Rahul Agrawal congratulated the medical team, stating that the institution remains committed to providing the best healthcare facilities to the public. He emphasized that correct and timely medical decisions during emergencies play a crucial role in saving lives.

Dr. Mayank Ameta also advised parents to keep small and sharp objects such as coins, batteries, buttons, pins and tools away from children, as curiosity at a young age can sometimes lead to dangerous accidents.
