Udaipur: The Urology Department at Pacific Medical College & Hospital (PMCH) has successfully treated a 59-year-old woman with a rare congenital condition, giving her a new lease on life. The patient was born with two ureters in her left kidney, and doctors removed eight stones trapped in these ureters using laser technology—completing a complex procedure without any major incisions.

The surgery was performed by Urologist Dr. Kshitij Roka along with Dr. Govind, Dr. Prakash Audichya, Dr. Anil, Subhash Sharma, Ghanshyam Nagar, Suresh Chhipa, and their medical team.

The patient had been experiencing intermittent, severe pain in her lower back for the past month. Local treatment provided no relief, so her family brought her to PMCH, where Dr. Roka recommended a CT scan. The scan revealed a rare condition called a Left Duplex Collecting System, which was causing the pain.

Dr. Roka explained that normally, each kidney has a single ureter to transport urine, but this woman was born with two ureters in her left kidney. Additionally, she had a left ureterocele, where the lower part of the ureter forms a balloon-like swelling that trapped 7–8 stones.

Considering the patient’s age and the complexity of her condition, the team opted for endoscopic ureteroscopy instead of open surgery. Using a laser, a tiny incision was made in the swollen ureterocele, and an endoscope with a miniature camera was inserted to safely remove all eight stones.

Dr. Roka noted that this congenital condition occurs in only 1–2% of the population and is often detected only when infections or stones cause severe symptoms.

Chairman Rahul Agrawal said, “The patient’s recovery is the real reward for us. Our mission is to provide high-quality, affordable treatment for serious conditions in the Mewar region so patients do not have to travel to major cities. At PMCH, we remain committed to delivering the best care with trust and dedication.”

Post-surgery, the patient has fully recovered and has been discharged from the hospital. She and her family expressed special gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at PMCH for their care and support.
