The rising number of heart-related issues among the youth in Rajasthan is a growing concern. In a press conference organized by Paras Health, Udaipur, this issue was brought to the forefront.
Udaipur | Paras Health, Udaipur, recently performed an emergency angioplasty on a 32-year-old resident of Chittorgarh who suffered a major heart attack. Such treatment is crucial within one to one and a half hours of the attack, and due to the patient's swift arrival, his life was saved. Dr. Amit Khandelwal, Director and Head of the Department of Cardiology at Paras Health, Udaipur, revealed that cases of heart attacks among young patients have been rapidly increasing over the past few years. Notably, the patient's brother had also been saved from a heart attack not too long ago. It is indeed a worrisome scenario when two individuals from the same family experience heart attacks in a short span of time. Additionally, a 33-year-old young man experienced intense chest pain while playing cricket and was immediately admitted to Paras Health. Diagnostic tests confirmed that he had suffered a heart attack. Following angioplasty, his life was saved. Dr. Amit Khandelwal stressed that irregular routines and excessive stress have contributed to the surge in heart-related problems. Hence, it is crucial to avoid stress in one's life. If someone in the family has previously suffered a heart attack, regular check-ups are recommended, as such problems might have a genetic predisposition.
Dr. Khandelwal mentioned that although awareness is gradually increasing among the people, it still hasn't reached everyone at the desired pace. As a result, a significant portion of patients, around 70%, are unable to reach the hospital in time due to lack of information and awareness. Consequently, they often succumb to these issues. Hence, early identification is vital. He emphasized that heart attack cases are on the rise among men, even surpassing the numbers in women nowadays. Cases of heart attacks occurring in gyms are also becoming more prevalent. This could be attributed to people suddenly initiating intense exercise routines in a bid to quickly regain fitness. However, such a practice may have adverse effects in the future. Therefore, individuals are advised to gradually increase their exercise intensity according to their stamina, avoiding excessive strain at the outset.
It is evident that the youth must be educated about adopting healthier lifestyles and managing stress to prevent heart-related problems. The medical community, along with institutions like Paras Health, is actively working towards creating awareness and providing timely interventions to combat this rising health concern.
