Planting a sapling is the first step; nurturing it is the real responsibility – Dr. G. L. Meena

Udaipur: Under the Hariyalo Rajasthan Campaign launched by the Government of Rajasthan, the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), Dr. Pratap Singh, has envisioned and resolved to ensure the optimal and creative utilization of every inch of land across the University and its constituent colleges. The objective is to transform all available spaces into green zones through extensive plantation, making the University campus greener, cleaner, more beautiful, and environmentally sustainable.

In line with this vision, the Department of Agricultural Economics and Management, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur, organized a tree plantation programme on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

The programme was conducted under the guidance and leadership of Dr. G. L. Meena, Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Management. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from Dr. Latika Sharma, In-charge of the Cost of Cultivation Scheme, Dr. Hari Singh, Mr. G. D. Vyas, faculty members, research scholars, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. students of the department.

A total of 30 saplings belonging to five different species were planted across the department premises, based on the availability of suitable locations. The plantation included 10 Custard Apple (Sitaphal), 5 Ashoka, 4 Arjun, 6 Chandni, and 5 Moringa (Drumstick) saplings. All participants also pledged to contribute towards the protection, regular maintenance, and sustainable development of a greener campus.

During the programme, Dr. G. L. Meena, Dr. Latika Sharma, and Dr. Hari Singh highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and emphasized the need for the protection and regular care of planted saplings. They noted that tree plantation is essential for maintaining ecological balance and protecting the environment. They urged everyone not only to plant more trees but also to take responsibility for their long-term care and survival, emphasizing that planting alone is not enough—proper nurturing and protection are equally important.

The programme received valuable support from the NGO "Jungle (Dharohar)", through its Programme Manager, Mr. Shriraj Singh Jhala, who provided approximately 30 saplings free of cost for the plantation drive. Environmental conservation is one of the organization's core activities, and it has set an ambitious target of distributing and planting one million saplings during 2026–27.

On the occasion, Dr. G. L. Meena, Head of the Department, expressed his sincere gratitude to the NGO Jungle (Dharohar) and all its supporters for their valuable contribution towards environmental conservation and the development of a greener campus.
