The five-day National Media Conference, themed “Role of Media in Promoting Peace, Unity, and Trust in Society”, commenced today at the Shantivan campus, organized by the Brahma Kumaris Media Wing. The inaugural session brought together over 1,500 delegates, including senior media professionals and emerging journalists, for an engaging dialogue on ethical reporting.

Governor’s Call to Serve the Nation
The session was presided over by the Honorable Governor of Rajasthan, Shri Haribhau Bagde Ji, who emphasized the media’s role as the fourth pillar of democracy. In his address, the Governor urged journalists to prioritize national interest and ethical reporting over sensationalism and political bias.

"People should win elections based on thoughts and national interest, not religion—this strengthens democracy," he said, warning against the misuse of freedom of speech to insult or disrespect others, which he described as harmful to the national fabric.

Governor Bagde challenged the media to shift its focus, asking, "Why do we make our country look bad in front of other nations? Write in national interest, highlight the soldier who guards the border day and night." He cited examples from President APJ Abdul Kalam and Israel, noting how positive achievements are often underreported. Highlighting India’s accomplishments in milk production, jowar, and corn, he encouraged the press to showcase the country’s progress.

The Governor also honored Rajyogini B.K. Mohini, Administrative Head of Brahma Kumaris, and Rajyogi B.K. Karuna, Chairperson of the Media Wing, RERF, Mt. Abu, with the International Book of Honor.

Peace Begins Within: Rajyogini B.K. Mohini
Following the Governor’s address, Rajyogini B.K. Mohini welcomed the delegates and emphasized that the conference’s core aim is for journalists to experience inner peace and remain conflict-free. She highlighted the mind’s power, stating, "Wars begin in the minds of people. So does peace."

She encouraged attendees to adopt the Brahma Kumaris’ practice of ‘traffic control’, pausing to monitor thoughts and connect with the Supreme, describing it as a tool to navigate challenging situations. Concluding her address, she led the delegates in a minute of guided meditation, reinforcing the peaceful nature of the soul.

Guiding Ethical and Positive Reporting
Several other prominent speakers echoed the call for responsible journalism:

Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Dwivedi, Department of JMC, University of Bhopal, highlighted that in the digital era, everyone is a content creator, stressing the need for value-based media. He proposed the mantra: "Bura mat type karo, bura mat like karo, bura mat share karo."

Prof. (Dr.) Mansingh Parmar, Former VC, KT University, Raipur, stressed India’s peace-loving ethos and the media’s role in fostering unity and truthful representation.

Rajyogi B.K. Karuna, Chairperson, Media Wing, RERF, Mt. Abu, highlighted the increasing coverage of spiritual and positive news and urged the media to maintain public trust to help India regain its position as Vishwa Guru (World Teacher).

Sis. B.K. Sarala, National Coordinator, Media Wing, Hyderabad, succinctly stated the retreat’s purpose: "God desires peace in the world, for every child to live in peace."

Brother B.K. Shantanu, National Coordinator, Media Wing, Mt. Abu, emphasized that trustworthy reporting fosters societal trust and unity.

The session also included a symbolic candle-lighting ceremony, led by B.K. Mohini, signifying a commitment to spreading peace and dispelling negativity.

The inaugural session established a strong foundation for exploring how the media can act as a catalyst for global peace, unity, and trust, guided by the spiritual insights of the Brahma Kumaris.
