Udaipur — Under the banner of the Shiv Sena Division Unit, transport traders have raised serious concerns regarding the widespread illegal transportation of goods in passenger buses across Udaipur and the division. On Tuesday, office bearers of the organisation submitted a memorandum demanding strict action to curb the growing malpractice. Acting on the organisation’s tip-off, authorities seized a bus earlier in the morning for carrying overloaded and unauthorized goods.


Shiv Sena Division Chief Ashok Kumar Jain stated that several major bus accidents in Rajasthan over recent months have resulted in heavy casualties. According to him, one of the primary causes of these incidents is the transportation of large quantities of unauthorized goods along with passengers. He noted that inadequate action by the Transport and Police Departments has emboldened bus owners and drivers to continue this unlawful practice. The weight of illegal cargo, often heavier than passenger load, not only violates norms but also leads to tax evasion, including GST and other levies, causing significant revenue losses to the government.

Around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, after receiving a complaint from transport traders, officers inspected a private bus at Kaya Bypass along with Transport Officer Shyamji. It was found that the number of parcels far exceeded the number of passengers. The bus was packed with goods at the rear and sides. Upon further inspection at the RTO Office Yard, officials discovered that the chassis had been cut from the back to create extra space for parcels — a dangerous modification that increases the risk of fatal accidents. A memorandum was subsequently submitted to the District Collector and GST officials, urging decisive action against buses illegally transporting goods. The Collector assured strict instructions to the concerned officers.

Organisation member Vijay Patel expressed concern that, driven by profit, some buses are also transporting flammable materials, leading to fire incidents and putting innocent passengers at risk. The organisation demanded immediate and firm action and warned that failure to do so would lead to protests against buses engaged in illegal transport.

The organisation also raised the issue of second-hand school vans operating without adherence to safety standards. While the Transport and Police Departments are taking justified action against such violations, Patel said the van drivers’ threats of agitation are inappropriate. He stressed that children’s safety must be the top priority, as most van drivers are ignoring essential safety norms.

The action saw participation from Transport Sena members including Himanshu Menaria, Giriraj Singh, Harish Upadhyay, Shyamji, Nitin Jain, Pradeep Singh, Naresh Nagda, Mukesh Menaria, Digvijay Singh, along with Shiv Sainiks and several workers including former Deputy State Chief Raviraj Soni, Vijay Patel, Pankaj Jain, Chetan Kumawat, and Tej Prakash.
