New Delhi | Western Uttar Pradesh received a significant gift on Monday as the long-standing demand for a new double railway line between Delhi and Shamli was fulfilled. Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Jayant Chaudhary, flagged off two new MEMU train services between Delhi and Shamli from Baraut railway station. The event witnessed the presence of Baghpat MP Rajkumar Sangwan, former MP Dr. Satyapal Singh, Legislative Council member Mohan Beniwal, MLA Krishan Pal Malik, and Chairperson of Baraut Municipal Council Babita Tomar.

Addressing the large gathering, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian Railways is continuously working to enhance passenger services. He stated that the launch of these two MEMU trains would provide better mobility options for daily commuters, students, farmers, and professionals of the region. He also informed that Shamli station is being upgraded into a modern world-class station at a cost of ₹25 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The long-pending demand of the Shamli–Baghpat area has finally been fulfilled, and these new train services will greatly ease travel for local residents.

The announcement of doubling the Delhi–Shamli railway section was met with loud applause from the crowd gathered at Baraut station. Leaders present on stage expressed gratitude to Shri Vaishnaw for fulfilling the region’s long-awaited request.

Shri Vaishnaw further shared that since 2014, a total of 5,272 km of new railway tracks have been built in Uttar Pradesh, equal to the entire railway network of Switzerland. The state’s railway network is now 100% electrified, and since 2014, 1,460 flyovers and road underbridges have been constructed across the state. To enhance passenger convenience, 154 lifts and 156 escalators have been installed at various stations, and Wi-Fi facilities are available at 771 stations. Currently, 34 Vande Bharat Express and 26 Amrit Bharat Express trains are operating in Uttar Pradesh.

This major development marks a new chapter in regional connectivity and economic growth for Western Uttar Pradesh.
