New Delhi, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, informed the Lok Sabha that significant capacity augmentation works are currently underway to strengthen the Mumbai Suburban Rail Network and enhance safety and convenience for millions of daily commuters.

As part of a major safety initiative, the procurement process for 238 new suburban trains equipped with Automatic Door Systems has been initiated. These modern trains are expected to significantly improve passenger safety and operational efficiency across the Mumbai suburban section.

New Train Stoppages for Palghar Region

To improve rail connectivity for passengers in the Palghar region, Indian Railways has recently introduced stoppages of several long-distance trains at Palghar station. These include:

22955/22956 Bandra (T)–Bhuj Kutch Express, effective from 17 May 2025

12489/12490 Shri Ganganagar–Dadar Express, effective from 18 May 2025

In addition, the stoppage of 22927/22928 Bandra (T)–Ahmedabad Lok Shakti Express has been provided at Safale station, near Palghar, with effect from 4 September 2025.

Train Operations at Palghar and Boisar

At present, 104 trains operate from Palghar station, comprising:

46 Mail/Express trains

16 Passenger trains

42 Suburban services

Similarly, Boisar station is served by 99 trains, including:

41 Mail/Express trains

16 Passenger trains

42 Suburban services

A wide range of Mail, Express, Passenger, MEMU, and Suburban services connect Palghar and Boisar with major destinations such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Ajmer, Surat, Haridwar, Porbandar, Bhuj, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Rishikesh, Indore, Lucknow, Jamnagar, and several other parts of the country.

Strengthening Mumbai’s Lifeline

The Minister stated that these measures reflect the Government’s continued focus on capacity expansion, passenger safety, and improved accessibility in the Mumbai suburban region—often referred to as the lifeline of the city. The introduction of new stoppages, coupled with modern rolling stock and infrastructure upgrades, is aimed at easing congestion and enhancing the overall travel experience.
