Udaipur: Under the monthly theatre series ‘Rangshala’, organized by the West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC), Udaipur, a powerful stage performance of the play ‘Golden Bazaar’ was presented on Sunday at the Darpan Auditorium, Shilpgram, by Potli Theatre Group, Mumbai. The auditorium was packed with spectators who warmly applauded the impactful presentation.
Director of the West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur, Furqan Khan, informed that the performance was organized as part of the monthly theatre evening Rangshala. This engaging and sensitive play has been written by Pawan Uttam and Vijay Singh Parmar. The story and design were conceptualized by Vijay Singh Parmar, while the overall concept was developed by Anshu Shrivastava.
Set against the vibrant yet contradictory backdrop of Kolkata, Golden Bazaar is a strong and emotionally compelling play that delves deeply into themes of love, betrayal, struggle, and liberation. Through Vijeta’s journey from a woman in love to a warrior, and from a victim to a voice, the play challenges social norms and celebrates the strength of a woman who refuses to compromise.
Theatre enthusiasts appreciated this initiative of the West Zone Cultural Centre and expressed gratitude for organizing such meaningful cultural events. At the conclusion of the program, all the artists were felicitated.
On this occasion, Assistant Director (Finance & Accounts) Durgesh Chandwani, Superintending Engineer C. L. Salvi, Shakeel Mohammed, Jagrut Dungarwal, Uday Singh, Mukul Audichya, Mahendra Singh Gehlot, along with officials and staff of the Centre and several distinguished guests from the city, were present. The program was compered by Siddhant Bhatnagar.
Story of the Play:
Golden Bazaar is an engaging drama centered around the lives of a young couple, Akash and Vijeta, who meet in Kolkata and fall in love. Akash works in a corporate job, while Vijeta is a dedicated social worker. Akash is busy planning their upcoming marriage and honeymoon, eagerly looking forward to visiting their dream destination, Mauritius.
However, their relationship takes an unexpected turn when Akash gives in to temptation and has a one-night stand with a colleague. When Vijeta discovers his betrayal, she is deeply hurt but agrees to forgive him on one condition—that she too will do the same before marriage. Unaware of the consequences of her decision, she is drawn onto a dark path that leads her to Sonagachi, Kolkata, one of Asia’s largest red-light areas, where her strength and resilience are put to the ultimate test.
As Vijeta’s struggle unfolds, the audience is compelled to reflect on whether she will be able to escape the clutches of the brothel and how these events will impact her relationship. Will their problems deepen, or will the path of forgiveness and liberation emerge?
Golden Bazaar takes the audience on an emotional roller coaster, exploring themes of love, betrayal, forgiveness, and the power of resilience. This gripping story of hope, struggle, and the quest for liberation leaves a lasting impression on the viewers.
