Udaipur. The long wait for city residents and tourists to revisit the famous Nehru Garden, located on the island in the middle of the world-renowned Fatehsagar Lake, is about to end. Following extensive renovation and strengthening works, the garden is scheduled to be inaugurated on September 5, 2025. Along with this, the foundation stone for additional beautification projects worth nearly ₹10 crore, including a musical fountain at Fatehsagar Lake, will also be laid.

According to UDA Commissioner Rahul Jain, the Nehru Garden Island, covering nearly 2 hectares, was transferred from Udaipur Municipal Corporation to the Udaipur Development Authority, after which a series of development works were carried out under the Chief Minister’s Budget Announcement 2024–25. These included civil upgrades, strengthened footpaths, heritage structure restoration, horticultural enhancements, and water body improvements. Considering the lake’s maximum water level, the garden’s pathways were elevated to prevent submergence. Boat services to the garden will commence from September 5, officially reopening the site for the public.

To facilitate smoother access, boat operations will now start from a newly built jetty near the Open Gym Park at Rajiv Gandhi Smriti Udyan on Rani Road, instead of the earlier jetty near Circuit House. This shift ensures better traffic management and ample parking facilities.

Initially, boating services will operate from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm daily. However, after the completion of the musical fountain and façade lighting—expected before the Diwali tourism season—the timings will be extended until 9:30 pm, allowing visitors to enjoy the spectacular evening attractions.

The reopening of Nehru Garden and upcoming projects mark a new chapter in Udaipur’s tourism landscape, combining heritage with modern recreational facilities.
