Udaipur: On the occasion of World Environment Day, a special awareness program on environmental conservation and tree plantation was organized at the Botany Auditorium of Rajasthan College of Agriculture, a constituent college of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), Udaipur.

Addressing first-year undergraduate agriculture students, Dr. L. N. Mahawar, Professor of Horticulture, highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and explained the vital role of tree plantation in reducing pollution, enhancing rainfall, and improving the aesthetic beauty of the environment. He emphasized that the adverse effects of rising temperatures, climate change, air pollution, water pollution, and noise pollution can be effectively mitigated through arboriculture and increased green cover.

Dr. Mahawar also stressed the need to reduce the indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and encouraged the adoption of green manures and organic farming practices to improve and preserve soil health. He appealed to students to celebrate their birthdays and college admission anniversaries by planting flowering and fruit-bearing trees instead of cutting cakes, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability and ensuring that the Earth continues to remain a source of welfare and prosperity for future generations.

As part of the celebration, a sapling of Terminalia metallica was planted on June 5, 2026, in the college campus by Dean Dr. M. K. Mahla, Dr. Shalini Pilania, and all first-year students.

The program conveyed a strong message of environmental responsibility and encouraged students to actively participate in conservation efforts through tree plantation and sustainable agricultural practices.
