Udaipur: Under the “Save the Fields” campaign, a Farmers’ Seminar was organized on June 5, 2026, at Bhesrodgarh (Rawatbhata) through the joint efforts of the Department of Agriculture, ATMA Chittorgarh, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), and the Agriculture Department, Chittorgarh.

Around 100 farmers and women farmers from Bhesrodgarh and nearby village panchayats participated in the program.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ratan Lal Solanki, Senior Scientist and Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chittorgarh, provided technical guidance on modern farming practices. He expressed concern over declining soil health and fertility and stressed the importance of balanced fertilizer use. He explained that the Government of India launched the “Save the Fields” campaign in view of the increasing prices and supply constraints of chemical fertilizers.

Dr. Solanki stated that excessive use of chemical fertilizers not only increases cultivation costs but also reduces soil fertility and contaminates groundwater. Imbalanced fertilizer application has emerged as a major challenge for sustainable agriculture. While excessive fertilizer use may initially result in higher yields, it eventually degrades soil quality and adversely affects crop productivity. He also encouraged farmers to adopt natural farming practices and demonstrated methods for preparing organic manure and vermicompost.

Dr. Harish Tak, Deputy Project Director, ATMA, advised farmers to conduct soil testing and make use of Soil Health Cards. He recommended adopting soil test-based fertilizer application and balanced nutrient management according to crop requirements. He also appealed to farmers to increase the use of organic manure, compost, and vermicompost, and to embrace natural farming practices for sustainable agricultural development.

Pawan Sharma, Assistant Agriculture Officer, highlighted the importance of crop rotation and green manuring to maintain soil quality and fertility.

Assistant Agriculture Officer Nirmal Meena demonstrated scientific methods of seed treatment, while Assistant Agriculture Officer Mohanlal Dhakad shared valuable information on organic farming practices. Mukesh Dhakad, Agriculture Supervisor from Khatikheda, informed farmers about various departmental schemes and benefits available to them.

Public representatives, progressive farmers, and agriculture officials, including Kailash Jat and Renu Choudhary, were also present during the seminar.

The program aimed to create awareness among farmers about soil conservation, sustainable agriculture, balanced nutrient management, and environmentally friendly farming practices under the ongoing “Save the Fields” campaign.
