Udaipur,  Newly elected Udaipur Mayor Paras Singhvi assumed office at an auspicious time on Wednesday, as BJP councillors took out a grand thanksgiving rally across the city following the formation of the party’s seventh municipal board.

The rally, organised by the BJP’s Udaipur city unit, began at Town Hall and passed through major city roads before concluding at the same venue. Residents, as well as social and religious organisations, welcomed the newly elected councillors and BJP leaders along the route with garlands, traditional uparnas and flower showers.

BJP general secretary Devilal Salvi said all victorious councillors arrived at Town Hall from their respective wards along with party workers. The rally was organised to thank residents for their support. A large number of party workers and citizens participated in the procession.

Mayor Paras Singhvi, Deputy Mayor Dinesh Bhatt, BJP city president Gajpal Singh Rathore, MLA Tarachand Jain, former mayor Ravindra Shrimali, Yudhishthir Kumawat, councillor Vijay Ahuja, election in-charge Rajni Dangi and district co-in-charge Mahesh Sharma, among others, travelled in an open vehicle at the front of the rally and greeted people along the route.

Singhvi assumes charge amid ceremonial rituals

Singhvi assumed charge as mayor in the presence of newly elected councillors, citizens and family members. Pandit Madan Ameta and Prakash Dashora, priest of Sagji Bawji, performed the traditional rituals before Singhvi formally took his seat. Municipal commissioner Abhishek Khanna welcomed him with a bouquet.

Deputy Mayor Dinesh Bhatt, city MLA Tarachand Jain, rural MLA Phool Singh Meena, Rajsamand MP Dipti Maheshwari, BJP city president Gajpal Singh Rathore, Pramod Samar, Navi Mumbai MP Dr Sanjeev Naik, Manoj Kotak, district co-in-charge Mahesh Sharma, general secretary Devilal Salvi, Dr Pankaj Borana, Ravi Nahar, former mayor GS Tank, Rajni Dangi, Yudhishthir Kumawat, Chandrasingh Kothari, Lokesh Dwivedi, Mangilal Joshi, former councillor Nanalal Vaya, Sanjay Bhandari, Tushar Mehta and several newly elected councillors and party workers were present.

Focus on a cleaner and modern Udaipur

Singhvi said the trust placed in the BJP by the people of Udaipur came with responsibility as well as a commitment to work for the city.

He said the new municipal board would work in a planned manner to make Udaipur cleaner, better organised and more modern. Strengthening basic civic amenities, improving sanitation, roads and drainage, easing traffic management and enhancing the city’s overall appearance would be among the priorities, he said.

Singhvi said Udaipur has an established identity as a major tourism destination and that civic infrastructure would be strengthened while preserving its tourism character. He also highlighted lake cleanliness and conservation, expansion of green spaces, development of public areas and improving facilities for both tourists and residents.

He said transparency and accountability would be given priority in the functioning of the municipal corporation. Efforts would also be made to establish an effective mechanism to hear and address issues raised by councillors and residents at the ward level.

Singhvi added that development would not remain confined to select areas and projects would be prioritised according to the requirements of individual wards.

Tribute paid to Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee

BJP media in-charge Krishnakant Kumawat said party leaders and workers paid floral tribute to Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee at his statue when the rally reached Surajpol.

BJP district president Gajpal Singh Rathore said the party had formed its seventh board in the city due to its organisational approach and the sustained efforts of its workers. He said efforts would be made to ensure that the city’s development remains a priority and that the expectations of residents are addressed.

Divisional media in-charge Chanchal Agrawal said the rally passed through Surajpol, Jhiniret, Mukherjee Chowk, Bada Bazaar, Ghantaghar, Moti Chohatta, Hathipole, Ashwini Bazaar, Delhi Gate and Bapu Bazaar before returning to Town Hall. Various social and religious organisations welcomed the elected councillors along the route with flower showers and ceremonial honours.

Deputy Mayor Dinesh Bhatt to take charge on Thursday

Deputy Mayor Dinesh Bhatt will assume office at 11.30 am on Thursday during an auspicious Abhijit Muhurat. Rajya Sabha MP Dr Satish Poonia will be present on the occasion, Chanchal Agrawal said.
