Sri Ganganagar: A legal awareness camp was organised at Agarwal Girls College, Sri Ganganagar, on Wednesday by Ravi Prakash Suthar, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Additional District and Sessions Judge.

Addressing the students, ADJ Suthar sensitised them about the rights of girls guaranteed under the Constitution of India, provisions of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, and laws related to female foeticide. He also spoke about the national campaign Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and informed the students about the cradle centres operating in Sri Ganganagar.

He made a social appeal to parents and community members not to abandon newborn children and instead leave them safely at designated cradle centres.

ADJ Suthar said that protecting the girl child must go hand in hand with ensuring access to higher education. He emphasised that educated and empowered women can occupy positions of responsibility and play a crucial role in eliminating social evils and regressive practices.

During the camp, Chief Advocate of DLSA Sri Ganganagar Rohtash Yadav briefed the students about various welfare schemes being implemented by the government for girls. He also stressed the importance of maintaining good physical and mental health and explained the responsibilities of parents and guardians towards the well-being and education of girls.

Advocate Amandeep Chalana from the Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC) explained the functioning of the Legal Aid Defense Counsel System and informed the students about the NALSA helpline number 15100, through which legal assistance can be accessed.

College Director Shyam Sundar Geedra and Principal Sarita were also present during the programme.
