Udaipur: On the occasion of World Heart Day, a special medical awareness programme was organised at the campus of the 129th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), popularly known as the Shaurya Chakra Battalion, to promote better heart health among BSF personnel.

The programme was organised with the objective of raising awareness about cardiovascular health among the personnel who serve in challenging and difficult conditions along the nation’s borders. Senior cardiologist Dr C.P. Purohit from Pacific Medical College & Hospital (PMCH), Bhilon Ka Bedla, was the keynote speaker.

Addressing the personnel, Dr Purohit shared important guidance on preventing heart disease, adopting a healthy lifestyle and recognising early warning signs. He highlighted that BSF personnel often work under intense physical exertion, mental stress and changing weather conditions, making it particularly important for them to take care of their cardiovascular health.

He elaborated on practical measures including a balanced diet, regular physical activity, adequate sleep and effective stress management. He also explained the early warning signs of heart-related problems, including chest discomfort or heaviness, persistent breathlessness, pain in the jaw or left arm, unusual fatigue and sudden sweating.

Dr Purohit cautioned that such symptoms should not be ignored or casually attributed to gas, muscular strain or exhaustion, as timely medical attention can be crucial in preventing serious complications.

Emphasising the importance of regular health check-ups, he advised personnel to periodically monitor their blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels so that potential health risks can be identified and addressed at an early stage.

Senior BSF officers expressed their gratitude to Dr C.P. Purohit and the management of Pacific Medical College & Hospital for organising the informative and valuable initiative. They said that ensuring the physical and mental well-being of the nation’s frontline personnel remains a top priority, and such healthcare awareness programmes can play an important role in strengthening both their health and morale.

Senior battalion officials and a large number of BSF personnel attended the programme.
