Udaipur: The fourth exhibition of Urban Sketchers Udaipur (USK), a group dedicated to capturing the city’s historic heritage, architecture, streets, markets, natural beauty and everyday life through sketches, was inaugurated with great enthusiasm at RK Mall on Saturday.

The two-day exhibition was organized to mark the completion of the group’s continuous 200-week sketching journey. Hundreds of vibrant sketches depicting Udaipur and other locations and themes were put on display.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Anand Gupta, President of the Rajasthan Medical Association. Dr. Kamlesh Sharma, Additional Director at Police Headquarters, Jaipur, and art enthusiast Praveen Kapoor, among other guests, visited the exhibition and appreciated the creativity of the artists. Urban Sketchers Udaipur head Sunil Laddha and sketch artist Shikha Purohit guided the guests through the exhibition and explained the subjects and themes represented in the artworks.

Preserving the Beauty of the Lake City Through Lines

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Anand Gupta said that urban sketching is not merely an art of drawing, but a creative medium through which a city can be observed, understood and its memories preserved. He appreciated the effort to document Udaipur’s craftsmanship, architecture and natural beauty through sketches and said that such initiatives play an important role in passing the city’s heritage on to future generations.

Guests Picked Up Brushes and Created Their Own Artwork

The inauguration became even more special as the guests joined the artists in a creative activity. Dr. Anand Gupta, Dr. Kamlesh Sharma, Additional Director at Police Headquarters, Jaipur, and art enthusiast Praveen Kapoor, along with other guests, picked up brushes and created their own paintings.

The artworks created by the guests transformed the inauguration from a formal ceremony into a lively celebration of art. UCCI Chairman Sandeep Bapna, Mukesh Gurnani, Sandeep Rathore and several senior art enthusiasts and industrialists also visited the exhibition and appreciated the artworks.

Special Memento Presented to Mark 200 Weeks

During the programme, Mr. Suresh Paliwal presented a special memento to Urban Sketchers Udaipur to commemorate the completion of 200 weeks. The memento symbolized the group’s continuous creative journey, achievement and dedication to art.

Works by More Than 45 Artists on Display

The exhibition featured sketches by numerous artists associated with Urban Sketchers Udaipur, including Aditya Sen, Akhilesh Kumawat, Arpan, Asad Siddiqui, Bhanu Pratap Soni, Bhavesh Doongri, Bhumika Depura, Bunty Suthar, Deep Singh, Deepika Meghwal, Deepti Ameta, Hemant Joshi, Devesh Vyas, Farhan, Grisha Suri, Jayesh Kothari, Kamlesh Dangi, Jay Khatri, Nilofar Munir, Rahul Mali, Ram Bahadur Rana, Suryabhan, Kenny Sen, Krishna, Krishnam Laddha, Vineet Khatri, Vishwas Ameta, Yashasvi Srivastava, Dinesh Yadav, Parul Mandot, Hiral Tirgar, Jinal Jain, Karishma Joshi, Rohit Vyas, Shikha Purohit, Simran Birla, Mukesh Gurnani, Suresh Paliwal, Purunjay Shrimali, Tulika Depura, Varun Gurnani, Puvisha Vyas, Suhani Vyas, Sunil Laddha and Yash Vadhani.

Through their individual perspectives, the artists portrayed the life, architecture, nature and social environment of Udaipur and other places on paper. The sketches, created in diverse styles and artistic approaches, became a major attraction for art lovers visiting the exhibition.

An Opportunity to Learn and Explore Art

Alongside the exhibition, several creative activities and workshops were organized. Rajat Kahaniwala conducted a workshop on “How to Sell Art,” while Suresh Paliwal conducted a session on “How to Create Perspective Sketches.” Rahul Mali attracted visitors with a live sketching session.

The first day concluded with an open-mic session featuring Krishna and Puvisha, followed by a musical evening featuring Asad Siddiqui and Neeraj.

Urban Sketchers Udaipur head Sunil Laddha said that the group’s 200-week journey has gone beyond merely creating drawings. It has been a continuous effort to document Udaipur’s cultural heritage, historic buildings, architectural traditions, natural surroundings and the changing character of the city. The fourth exhibition is an initiative to bring this creative journey closer to the general public.
