Udaipur: Member of Parliament from Udaipur, Dr. Mannalal Rawat, is currently participating in a series of meetings of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal, Mines, and Steel, being held in Srinagar, Mumbai, and Coorg till July 10.
The first meeting was held on Saturday in Srinagar, chaired by Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur, where key issues such as India's self-reliance in coal production, gasification technology, public interest, and environmental impact were discussed in detail.
In Srinagar, Minister Thakur and committee members held three in-depth discussions with representatives from the Ministry of Coal, Coal India Limited (CIL), Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), and Central Coalfields Limited (CCL). The focus was on research and development in the coal sector, compliance with environmental norms by coal and lignite companies, and self-reliance in minerals and metals with input from officials of the Ministry of Mines, Geological Survey of India (GSI), and Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM).
In the upcoming sessions in Mumbai, the committee will hold informal discussions with representatives from the Ministry of Mines, NALCO, Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), and Mineral Exploration & Consultancy Limited (MECL) on mineral policy and its implementation.
Later in Coorg, informal talks will take place with the Ministry of Steel, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), and MOIL Limited focusing on the promotion of steel usage. There will also be detailed discussions on reviewing the steel policy and its impact on the development of the steel sector, with participation from MECON Limited and MSTC Limited.
