E-Waste Collection Pilot Project Launched in Udaipur

Udaipur, under the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, witnessed the launch of a pilot initiative for safe collection, recycling, and disposal of electronic waste (e-waste) on Wednesday. Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad, Udaipur, Ria Dabi flagged off the e-waste collection vehicle from the Zila Parishad premises.

She informed that with the support of the Innovative Governance Reforms Federation (IGRF), the first phase of the campaign will cover all gram panchayats of five blocks—Girwa, Mavli, Kurabad, Badgaon, and Vallabhnagar—till October 31. The collected e-waste will be scientifically processed and disposed of. Along with collection, villagers will also be sensitized about cleanliness, hygiene, and waste management practices.

Village-level collection centers and receipts for contributors

E-waste collection centers have been set up in each gram panchayat under the campaign. Old mobile phones, laptops, chargers, computers, refrigerators, keyboards, LEDs, and tube lights will be gathered at these points. A door-to-door collection drive will also be conducted using e-waste vehicles. Every contributor will be issued a receipt, with details registered systematically. The collected e-waste will be transferred to Pollution Control Board–authorized centers for safe disposal.

Rajasthan’s first e-waste campaign from Udaipur

Director of IGRF, Dr. Vijay Vyas, described the initiative as a significant step towards environmental protection. He highlighted the harmful impacts of e-waste on human health and nature. For the first time in Rajasthan, such an e-waste collection drive has been launched as a pilot project from Udaipur. After a one-month review, the scope of the campaign will be expanded further. Earlier, a poster of the campaign was unveiled and symbolic disposal of e-waste into special bins was carried out to spread the message of cleanliness and environmental care.

Doorstep e-waste disposal through “Swachh Dhani App”

As an innovative step, Zila Parishad Udaipur has integrated e-waste disposal into its “Swachh Dhani App.” Rural residents can now register complaints related to e-waste by scanning a QR code. The complaint status can also be tracked online. Within seven days, the grievance will be resolved by the concerned Gram Vikas Adhikari. At the Panchayat Samiti level, Development Officers will monitor the progress, while at the district level, the Zila Parishad CEO supervises through the app’s dashboard.
