Special Story: Shilpgram Festival–2025

Udaipur. When winter chills set in, a couple of sips of aromatic kahwa—prepared with saffron and dry fruits instead of regular tea—can instantly chase away the cold. Not only does it warm the body, it is also highly beneficial for health.

At the Shilpgram Fair, behind the Dhol Hut, Mohammad Iqbal from Kashmir is serving this traditional Kashmiri kahwa along with premium dry fruits from his region. Along with freshly prepared kahwa, he has also brought neatly packed kahwa for visitors. Iqbal explains that kahwa is made from a blend of saffron, cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, licorice, rose petals, and powdered dry fruits. It is boiled in water and can be sweetened with sugar or honey as per taste. Even without any sweetener, it has a naturally pleasant taste.

He adds that kahwa is not only popular for its rich flavor but also for its health benefits. It helps boost immunity and provides a comforting warmth during harsh winters. This is why kahwa has been a traditional beverage in snowbound regions of Kashmir, where it is consumed much like tea.

Shilajit Along with Dry Fruits

Having made a strong mark at handicraft fairs across the country with his dry fruits and kahwa, Iqbal says that Kashmiri dry fruits enjoy high demand nationwide. At his stall, visitors can find guaranteed-quality walnuts and walnut kernels, almonds and almond kernels, all free from chemical treatment.

He has also brought figs, apricots, mixed dry fruits, peaches, roseberries, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, cranberries, and various varieties of raisins. In addition, mango and orange slices, forest black honey and pure acacia (babool/kikar) honey, premium-quality shilajit, rajma, and mountain garlic are also in high demand at the stall.

Iqbal confidently claims that all the products available at his stall are of superior quality, offering visitors an authentic taste of Kashmir at the Shilpgram Festival.
