Poets’ Meet to Honor Mewar’s “Geet Rishi” Pandit Vishweshwar Sharma

Udaipur: A special poets’ conference is being organized in honor of Pandit Vishweshwar Sharma, revered as the “Geet Rishi” of Mewar. The event, titled Pandit Vishweshwar Sharma Geet Samman, is being jointly organized by the Pandit Vishweshwar Sharma Charitable Trust and Rotary Club Mewar.

During a press conference held in this regard, the organizing committee announced that this year the prestigious honor will be conferred upon renowned lyricist Dr. Vishnu Saxena. The poets’ meet will feature performances by well-known poets including Rajendra Gopal Vyas, Sunil Vyas, poetess Deepika Mahi, Manoj Gurjar, and Shailendra Shailu, who will captivate the audience with their songs and poems. The program will be conducted by national poet Rao Ajal Shatru.

Family members of Pandit Vishweshwar Sharma, present at the press briefing, highlighted his immense contribution to literature. They said that he was one of Mewar’s most distinguished literary figures who brought national and international recognition to the region. His dedication to literature was exemplary, and he devoted his entire life to literary pursuits like a true ascetic. Around 15 of his books were published, encompassing genres such as songs, poetry, short stories, novels, and khandkavya (epic poetry). In recognition of his literary excellence, he was honored with the Vishisht Sahityakar Samman by the Rajasthan Sahityakar Parishad, a highly respected literary institution.

Pandit Vishweshwar Sharma also made a significant mark in Bollywood with his creative brilliance. He penned several immortal songs that continue to resonate with audiences, including “Chal Sanyasi Mandir Mein,” “Tumhare Bin Guzaare Hain,” “Naav Kagaz Ki Gehra Hai Paani,” and “Teri Panah Mein Hume Rakhna,” among many others.

His unwavering commitment to national poets’ conferences was remarkable, and he is widely regarded as the pioneer of the Pratigīt (counter-song) genre in Indian literature. Notably, last year, under the joint initiative of the district administration and Rotary Club Mewar, the Pandit Vishweshwar Sharma Smriti Geet Samman was organized, during which the honor was bestowed upon Ramendra Mohan Tripathi.
