Vice Chancellor Reviews Medicinal Crops Research Project

Udaipur, The Vice Chancellor of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), Dr. Pratap Singh, inspected the All India Coordinated Research Project on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants being conducted at Rajasthan College of Agriculture.

Project in-charge Dr. Amit Dadhich briefed the Vice Chancellor about the improved varieties developed under the project, including Pratap Isabgol-1, Pratap Asalia-1, Pratap Ashwagandha-1 and Chetak Opium. He explained their production potential, disease resistance, quality and adaptability to regional conditions. Dr. Dadhich also informed about the progress of ongoing research activities under the project.

Appreciating the research work, Dr. Pratap Singh reviewed the four varieties developed by the university and encouraged scientists to continue research aligned with farmers’ needs. He emphasised that advanced technologies and innovations should be adopted to strengthen the agricultural sector and ensure increased income for farmers.

On the occasion, plant disease specialist Dr. R.N. Bunkar shared information about various diseases affecting medicinal crops and their control measures. The Vice Chancellor noted that opium, being an important crop, is susceptible to several diseases and therefore requires intensified research for effective diagnosis and management.

Technical Assistant Dr. N.K. Padiwal also briefed about extension activities, dissemination of research results to farmers and first-line demonstrations being conducted to promote improved technologies.
