Successful Treatment of a 66-Year-Old Patient at PIMS Hospital

Udaipur: The Department of Respiratory Medicine at Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Umarda has successfully treated a 66-year-old male patient suffering from severe respiratory problems.

Chairman Ashish Agrawal informed that the patient had been experiencing breathing difficulties for the past two months and reported to the hospital for treatment. Investigations including a chest X-ray and HRCT scan revealed a gross pleural effusion in the left lung, which had caused complete collapse of the lung.

Considering the critical condition of the patient, the medical team opted for a minimally invasive thoracoscopy procedure instead of conventional open thoracic surgery. This advanced technique helped avoid prolonged hospitalization and ICU stay, reduced treatment costs, and minimized the risk of complications. During the procedure, thick septations were successfully removed using advanced thoracoscopic technology (endoknife cautery), enabling re-expansion of the lung.

Mr. Agrawal stated that the patient remained stable after the procedure and no complications were observed. He congratulated the faculty members of the Respiratory Medicine Department—Dr. Sanidhya Tak, Dr. Karanraj Singhal, Dr. Mayur Vikram Devaraj, Dr. Raju Kottakota, and Dr. Aniruddh, along with all resident doctors and the bronchoscopy team—for their successful and coordinated efforts in the patient’s treatment.
