Udaipur: The five-day West Zone Inter-University Basketball Championship 2025-26, hosted for the first time by Vidya Pracharini Sabha Bhupal Nobles University (BN University), concluded with a grand prize distribution ceremony on Saturday at the university’s Kumbha Auditorium. The event began with floral tributes and lamp lighting at the idol of Goddess Saraswati by the dignitaries.
The ceremony’s chief guests included Former Divisional Commissioner Rajendra Bhatt, Magsaysay Awardee Dr. Rajendra Singh (popularly known as Paniwale Baba), Prof. Shivsinh Sarangdevot (Chairperson), Minister Dr. Mahendra Singh Agria, Managing Director Mohabbat Singh Rupakhedi, Joint Secretary Rajendra Singh Tana, Finance Secretary Shakti Singh Karohi, President Prof. Chetan Singh Chahaan, and Registrar Dr. N.N. Singh. The winners and runners-up teams were awarded shimmering trophies and medals in recognition of their achievements.
Championship Results
According to the league format, Manipal University emerged as the champion of the 2025-26 West Zone Inter-University Basketball Championship. Kota University secured second place, Mumbai University claimed third, and the host BN University finished fourth. All four teams will now represent their respective universities at the upcoming All India Basketball Tournament, to be held at Mumbai University.
Special Recognitions
Dr. Abhimanyu Singh Rathore, Chairman of the Sports Board, announced that the following officials and referees were honored with mementos and shawls for their outstanding contribution: Chief Referee Jaswant Singh Jaitawat, Bhanwar Vijay Singh Khangarot, Prem Shankar Jatav, Harshvardhan Singh, Akash Basu, Bhupendra Singh Rathore, Nitesh Badgujar, Narendra Singh Chahaan, Pannalal J Saini, Ashok Sharma, Azharuddin God, Deependra Singh, Anuj Madhusudan Joshi, Chandravir Singh Pawar, Mukesh Khatik, and Surendra Yadav.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Anita Rathore, and was attended by notable personalities and sports enthusiasts including Gajendra Singh Bansi, Prof. Yuvraj Singh Rathore, Naval Singh Jud, Karan Singh Umri, Kamleshwar Singh Kachher, Mahendra Singh Pakhanda, Gajendra Singh Gatiyawali, Bhanwar Singh Sakariyakhedi, Kuldeep Singh Tal, Mahendra Singh Patia, Bhim Singh Tana, Bhawanipal Singh Rathore, Mansingh Chundawat, Prof. Renu Rathore, Prof. Prem Singh Rawalot, Prof. Ritu Tomar, Dr. Bhupendra Singh Chahaan, along with the university dean-director and other distinguished citizens of the city.
