Inspection of School Transport and Legal Awareness Camp Held on Human Rights Day

Pratapgarh Acting on the directions of the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority, Jaipur, and in compliance with the detailed guidelines issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the M.C. Mehta vs. Union of India (Order dated 16.12.1997) regarding school transport safety, a surprise inspection of school vehicles was conducted today at Zero Mile Chauraha, Mandsaur Naka, Pratapgarh.

Kedarnath, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (Additional District & Sessions Judge), conducted the inspection in coordination with the District Transport Officer, Pratapgarh, and the Pratapgarh Traffic Police. The inspection highlighted that several private school operators and vehicle drivers continue to compromise student safety in pursuit of profit, leading to widespread violations of school transport norms—a matter of serious concern noted by the State Legal Services Authority.

During the inspection, the Secretary examined compliance with key safety requirements including:

School vehicles painted entirely in yellow with clear visibility,

Clearly marked “SCHOOL BUS” signage on front and rear,

Properly functioning door locking mechanisms,

Valid fire extinguisher within expiry period,

Availability of emergency exit,

Valid driving licences and identification documents of drivers and attendants,

No overloading of children beyond permitted capacity.

Challans were issued against vehicles found violating the norms, and necessary instructions were given to ensure immediate rectification of deficiencies.

Legal Awareness Camp in District Jail on Human Rights Day

To mark Human Rights Day, a legal awareness camp was organized today at the District Jail, Pratapgarh, under the guidance of the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority. The session was led by Kedarnath, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, along with Vikas Marg, Chief Judicial Magistrate, and Varsha Singh, Additional Civil Judge & Judicial Magistrate.

During the camp, inmates were informed about the fundamental rights and duties enshrined in the Constitution of India. Speakers explained that fundamental rights—such as the right to equality, freedom, protection against exploitation, freedom of religion, cultural and educational rights, and the right to constitutional remedies—are inherent from birth.

They also highlighted the Fundamental Duties introduced through the 42nd Constitutional Amendment, including respect for the Constitution, national symbols, commitment to national unity, safeguarding public property, promoting harmony, valuing India’s cultural heritage, and maintaining peace.

Inmates were further made aware of their legal rights, available remedies, and the support systems provided by the Legal Services Authority.
