Gangaur Procession Held at Rajasthan Utsav in Bikaner House

New Delhi: As part of the 11-day Rajasthan Utsav at Bikaner House, New Delhi, which continues until March 25, 2026, a grand Gangaur procession was held on Saturday, drawing widespread attention and participation.

Additional Residential Commissioner, Smt. Anju Omprakash, informed that approximately 200 women took part in the procession, carrying decorated pots and coconuts on their heads during the auspicious Kalash journey, covering the entire Bikaner House premises.

The procession was led by Rajasthani folk artists, who performed mashak drumming, Kachhi Ghodi dance, and other traditional art forms. Hundreds of women and men, dressed in vibrant traditional attire, joined the procession, singing mangals and celebrating the Gangaur festival. Idols of Isar and Gauri were installed, decorated, and worshipped as part of the festivities.

Since Saturday was a holiday, visitors from various parts of Delhi explored the Rajasthan Utsav, enjoying Rajasthani cuisine and purchasing handcrafted products made by local artisans.

Gangaur is one of Rajasthan’s major festivals, dedicated to Goddess Parvati (Gauri) and Lord Shiva (Isar), symbolizing marital bliss and lifelong prosperity. The name Gangaur reflects this devotion, with “Gan” representing Shiva and “Gaur” representing Parvati.

Cultural Evening ‘Lok Rang’ Captivates Visitors

Following the Gangaur procession, a cultural evening titled “Lok Rang” was organized by the Rajasthan Tourism Department at Bikaner House. The event began with Ganesh Vandana, followed by mesmerizing performances including Kesariya Balam, Chari Dance, Kachhi Ghodi Dance, Khari Dance, Rim Bhavai Dance, Ghoomar Dance, and other Rajasthani group dances. Folk artist Gaffaruddin Mewati enthralled the audience with his Bhapang performance, adding to the festive spirit.

The combination of vibrant folk performances, devotional rituals, and Rajasthani hospitality made the event a memorable celebration of the state’s rich cultural heritage.
