Young Legislators Urged to Redefine Democratic Discourse

Bhopal Bureau/Bhopal/Jaipur: Calling for a shift from disruption to deliberation, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani emphasized that legislative houses must evolve into sanctuaries of meaningful dialogue rather than arenas of chaos. He was addressing the inaugural session of a two-day Young Legislators’ Conference held at the Madhya Pradesh Assembly.

The event witnessed the presence of key political figures including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, alongside leaders from multiple states.

Describing the Assembly as the “soul of democracy,” Devnani underlined its role as a platform where elected representatives channel the aspirations and concerns of the public. He cautioned that turning such a sacred institution into a hub of noise and disorder undermines democratic values and erodes public trust.

He stressed the importance of reasoned debates backed by facts, urging legislators to rise above personal attacks and focus on policy-driven discussions. According to him, a healthy democracy thrives not on uniformity of opinion but on maintaining dignity amid disagreement.

Highlighting the significance of youth in governance, Devnani termed the participation of legislators under 45 from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh as a “Triveni of legislative energy.” He noted that young leaders represent the country’s demographic strength and can play a decisive role in shaping forward-looking policies.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Developed India 2047, he said the goal cannot be achieved without inclusive development reaching the last mile. He encouraged young legislators to actively contribute through innovation, technology adoption, and grassroots engagement.

The Speaker also advocated for greater use of digital tools such as the NEVA platform to enhance transparency and citizen participation, bridging the gap between governance and the public. He emphasized that legislative committees, often termed “mini legislatures,” must be utilized effectively to ensure accountability.

Concluding his address, Devnani urged young representatives to transform their role from mere representation to meaningful participation, ensuring that democratic institutions remain robust, responsive, and rooted in both modernity and cultural heritage.
