Historic Celebration of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly's Glorious 75-Year Journey: Four Major Events Planned

Jaipur. Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani has announced that four major events will be held throughout the year to mark the historic celebration of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly's glorious 75-year journey.

Speaking at a press conference held at the State Assembly building in Jaipur on Friday, Devnani shared significant details regarding the Assembly's Amrit Mahotsav. He stated that the Amrit Mahotsav programs would commence on July 15. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will participate in the event and address a grand gathering comprising former and current members—spanning from the first Assembly to the present sixteenth Assembly—as well as Members of Parliament (MPs) from the state.

The Speaker noted that this historic conference would feature discussions on vital topics such as the journey of democracy, legislative traditions, the dignity of the House, parliamentary experiences, challenges, and the digital transformation of the Assembly. Additionally, former Assembly Speakers, Deputy Speakers, and the most senior MLAs will be specially honored.

Speaker Devnani mentioned that invitations have been extended to a host of dignitaries, including the Governors of Rajasthan and Punjab Haribhau Bagde and Gulab Chand Kataria, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully, former Chief Ministers Ashok Gehlot and Vasundhara Raje, all former Assembly Speakers and Deputy Speakers, all 200 current MLAs and 495 former MLAs of Rajasthan, all 35 MPs from the state (25 Lok Sabha and 10 Rajya Sabha), and other distinguished guests. He described the grand gathering as a glorious celebration of Indian parliamentary democracy, showcasing a remarkable blend of experience, tradition, innovation, women's empowerment, youth energy, and public trust.

Assembly Speaker Devnani stated that the 'Rajasthan Legislative Assembly' is celebrating this historic Amrit Mahotsav to mark its glorious 75-year tenure. To make this milestone unforgettable, a grand and dignified 'Amrit Mahotsav' celebration is being organized on July 15, 2026, in the vast chamber of the State Legislative Assembly; Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will attend the inaugural session as the chief guest, while the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and Vice President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, will grace the closing ceremony with his presence.

*Honouring Former Assembly Speakers and Senior MLAs*

Devnani stated that the ceremony would honour former Assembly Speakers, former Deputy Speakers, former MLAs elected six or more times, and current MLAs. This honour serves as a token of gratitude for the contributions of public representatives who have enriched Rajasthan's democratic traditions. He mentioned that former Assembly Speakers Shantilal Chaplot, Sumitra Singh, Dipendra Singh Shekhawat, Kailash Chand Meghwal and Dr. C.P. Joshi, along with former Deputy Speakers Tara Bhandari, Ramnarayan Meena, and Rao Rajendra Singh(MP), would be felicitated. Additionally, senior leaders who have served as Assembly members six or more times, as well as currently elected senior MLAs, will be honoured.

Among the former MLAs with six or more terms, 14 stalwarts will be honoured, including the senior-most former MLA & EX Speaker 96 Yrs old Sumitra Singh (9-time MLA); Gulab Chand Kataria,Punjab Governor (8 times); Pradyuman Singh (8 times); Narayan Singh (7 times); Devi Singh Bhati (7 times); Rajendra Rathore (7 times); Ghanshyam Tiwari,MP (6 times); Hemaram Choudhary (6 times); and Dr. B.D. Kalla (6 times). Among the current members of the House, 10 MLAs will be felicitated, including Kalicharan Saraf (8 times), Dr. Dayaram Parmar (7 times), and Pratap Singh Singhvi (7 times), alongside former Chief Ministers Ashok Gehlot and Vasundhara Raje (6 times each), Cabinet Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena (6 times) and Madan Dilawar (6 times).

*Special Discussion on 23 Historic Laws*

The Assembly Speaker announced that a special discussion on 23 significant laws passed by various Legislative Assemblies of Rajasthan would be held during the inaugural event of the *Amrit Mahotsav*. Former Assembly Speakers, former Deputy Speakers, and former Ministers will share their experiences regarding the social and administrative impact of these laws. These include significant laws such as the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act, 1952; the Rajasthan Zamindari and Biswedari Abolition Act, 1959; the Rajasthan Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad Act, 1959; the Rajasthan Primary Education Act, 1964; the Rajasthan Lokayukta and Up-Lokayukta Act, 1973; the Rajasthan Right to Information Act, 2001; and the Rajasthan Guaranteed Delivery of Public Services Act, 2011. Shri Devnani stated that these laws have played a pivotal role in Rajasthan's social transformation, administrative reforms, expansion of education, transparency, and public welfare. The relevance of these historic decisions and their significance in the current context will also be discussed through the 'Amrit Mahotsav'.

Devnani stated that the inaugural event of the 'Amrit Mahotsav' will be broadcast live on the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly's official YouTube channel, allowing citizens across the state and the country to witness this historic occasion. Assembly Speaker Devnani noted that this event would not only weave together the legislative history, present, and future of Rajasthan into a unified narrative but also showcase a unique confluence of experiences, innovations, and parliamentary traditions spanning seven decades of the democratic journey.

*Four Major 'Amrit Mahotsav' Events to Span a Year*

Devnani announced that four major events under the 'Amrit Mahotsav' banner would be organized over the course of the year to mark the 75th anniversary of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, culminating next year on Rajasthan Foundation Day. The President of India, the Prime Minister, and other distinguished guests are being invited to these 'Amrit Mahotsav' events.Assembly Speaker Devnani mentioned that special sessions featuring parliamentary and constitutional experts would be held, focusing on discussions regarding the strengthening of democracy, legislative processes, and constitutional values. He stated that through this event, efforts would be made to pass on the glorious traditions of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly to the new generation.
He remarked that the glorious journey of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly—a bearer of public aspirations and a guardian of democratic values—is an unforgettable saga of 75 years of experience and public service.
