Chief Minister Praises Rahda Foundation’s “Gokasth” Campaign, Calls It Important for Environmental Conservation

Udaipur: Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma lauded the Gokasth campaign run by the Rahda Foundation and suggested expanding it on a larger scale. The foundation has now encouraged tribal women to produce natural garlands made from cow dung for use during Holika Dahan, creating local employment opportunities.
The initiative gained attention at a program organized by the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board in Jaipur, where the Rahda Foundation set up a stall promoting environmental conservation through Gokasth products. During his visit, the Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of Archanasingh Charan, founder of the foundation, calling the campaign an effective step towards environmental protection and recommending that it be implemented more widely and innovatively.
Founder’s Initiative to Empower Tribal Women
Archanasingh Charan shared that following the Chief Minister’s guidance, cow dung garlands are now being made in tribal areas of the district, to be offered during Holika Dahan. This initiative provides employment opportunities to many women at the local level. Charan emphasized that the project not only helps preserve ancient cultural traditions but also sends a strong message of environmental sustainability.
Local tribal women are being actively engaged in the process, receiving training to become self-reliant, enabling them to earn livelihoods from home. This effort strengthens their financial stability, self-respect, and confidence. Charan added that the slogan “Local for Vocal” is not just a catchphrase but a way to honor local resources, skills, and labor.
Religious and Cultural Significance of Cow Dung Garlands
Cow dung garlands symbolize purity and sanctity. In Indian tradition, cows are revered, and cow dung is considered sacred. Offering cow dung garlands before Holika Dahan is an act rooted in faith, devotion, and traditional values, reflecting the continuity of Sanatan culture.
Appeal to Celebrate Eco-Friendly Holi
The Rahda Foundation has appealed to citizens, social organizations, and villagers to avoid using forest wood for Holika Dahan this Holi and instead adopt eco-friendly Gokasth materials (garlands and items made from cow dung), promoting a sustainable and environmentally conscious celebration.
