Udaipur: A new chapter has been added to Udaipur’s eco-tourism with the formal inauguration of the long-awaited Sajjangarh Lion Safari and Reptile Park on Monday. The ceremony was presided over by Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, who also inaugurated the Wildlife Rescue Center.
The chief guest, Shri Kataria, first inaugurated the newly constructed modern Reptile House within the Sajjangarh Biological Park by cutting the ceremonial ribbon. Chief Conservator of Forests, Seduram Yadav, shared that the Reptile House features 10 state-of-the-art enclosures designed to house various species of reptiles in environments that closely mimic their natural habitats. This facility will not only strengthen wildlife conservation efforts but also provide an educational and enriching experience for tourists and students.
Following this, Shri Kataria inaugurated the Wildlife Rescue Center and released the Asiatic lion ‘Sultan’ and lioness ‘Sunaina’ from the center’s enclosure into the Lion Safari area for free roaming. The assembled crowd greeted this historic moment with enthusiastic applause.
Shri Kataria then proceeded to the main entrance of the Lion Safari, where he unveiled a plaque to formally inaugurate the facility. Alongside other dignitaries, he took a tour of the Lion Safari in special safari vehicles, expressing delight at observing the wildlife in their natural environment.
A Boost for Tourism
Shri Kataria stated that the Lion Safari and Reptile House will elevate Udaipur’s tourism to new heights. He described the development as a proud achievement for the Mewar region, noting that it will enhance wildlife conservation while creating employment and economic opportunities for local communities. He also participated in a tree-planting ceremony earlier in the event.
The program was attended by several senior officials and wildlife experts, including Divisional Commissioner Sushri Pragya Keelramani, District Collector Namit Mehta, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Venkatesh Sharma, social worker Ravindra Shrimali, Govind Singh Tank, Rajni Dangi, Chief Conservator of Forests Sunil Chhidri, Chief Wildlife Conservator Seduram Yadav, Deputy Conservator of Forests Mukesh Saini, Ajay Chittoda, Yadavendra Singh Chundawat, along with numerous nature enthusiasts and citizens.
