Udaipur: Member of Parliament Mannalal Rawat has demanded the establishment of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in five Panchayat Samitis of the tribal region. On Tuesday, he raised this issue in Parliament under Rule 377 of the Lok Sabha.
While addressing the Parliament, MP Rawat stated that under the Udaipur Lok Sabha constituency, none of the Panchayat Samitis—Ogna, Sulaw, Devla, Nai, and Kalyanpur—currently have an Eklavya Model Residential School, despite being predominantly tribal areas.
According to the Census of India 2011, the Scheduled Tribe population in these Panchayat Samitis is significantly high: about 68% in Ogna, 95% in Sulaw, 98% in Devla, 86% in Nai, and 88% in Kalyanpur. Based on these figures, all these regions fully meet the eligibility criteria for the establishment of EMRS institutions.
He further pointed out that these Panchayat Samitis are located in remote and geographically challenging areas, which limits access to quality residential education for tribal boys and girls. As a result, their participation in higher education and competitive opportunities is adversely affected.
MP Rawat also noted that local residents have been demanding the establishment of Eklavya Model Residential Schools in these areas for a long time. Therefore, he urged the government to approve new EMRS institutions in these five Panchayat Samitis under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India, ensuring accessible, quality, and comprehensive education for tribal students.
