Focus on promoting local economic activities, says District Collector

Review Meeting on Panch Gaurav Program

Udaipur: A review meeting of the Panch Gaurav Program was held on Friday evening at the Mini Auditorium of the Collectorate under the chairmanship of District Collector Namit Mehta. The meeting discussed the progress of extensive publicity and implementation plans for the five pillars of the program in Udaipur district:

* Flora: Mahua
* Produce: Sitaphal (custard apple)
* Sports: Swimming
* Products: Marble & Granite
* Tourist Sites: Fatehsagar and Pichola

The Collector provided necessary directions to ensure effective implementation and promotion of these activities.

Program Progress and Directions:
Panch Gaurav Nodal Officer and Joint Director of Statistics, Puneet Sharma, reported that projects worth ₹26.10 crore under the Panch Gaurav program have been approved, of which work worth ₹6.37 crore has been completed, while the remaining projects are in progress.

For swimming, the construction of an all-weather facility at Maharana Pratap Sports Village Taran Tal was reviewed. The Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) Secretary reported that ₹6.50 crore has been approved for the work, which is currently under tendering. Of the ₹1.02 crore received from the state government, ₹50 lakh has been allocated to UDA for construction, while the remaining amount has been directed to the District Sports Officer along with a detailed work plan. The District Collector also instructed talent search competitions in swimming at the block level.

For forestry initiatives, Sharma mentioned that the Forest Department will carry out plantation work in 20 hectares of land at Balicha, with ₹40 lakh sanctioned by the state government for construction and ₹45 lakh for publicity and promotion. Instructions were also given to the Deputy Director of Horticulture and District Project Manager Rajivika to prepare a comprehensive plan for establishing Sitaphal processing units and related industrial enterprises in the district.

Marble & Granite Promotion:
District Industry Centre General Manager Shailendra Sharma reported that under the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, ₹25 lakh has been sanctioned for marble and granite promotion. Eleven workshops have been conducted, and two units have been provided market support. The District Collector directed that, in coordination with the local Marble & Granite Association, a large-scale Marble & Granite Fair be organized in Udaipur before February 15, along with exhibitions at key centers.

Beautification of Mewar Gallery:
UDA Secretary Hemendra Nagar reported that the floating jet fountain and dynamic laminar work at Fatehsagar has been completed, while electrical beautification and facade illumination work are in progress. The District Collector instructed increasing the number of fountains at Fatehsagar and ensuring completion as per the schedule.

Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Khanna reported that the jet fountain work between Dai Ji Ki Pulia and Chandpol has been completed, while tendering for beautification of Gangaur Ghat is in progress. The District Collector also directed the overall beautification of the Mewar Gallery.

Awareness Activities in Schools:
The District Collector instructed schools to conduct awareness competitions, including poster making, slogan writing, and Panch Gaurav development suggestion programs. He also directed the organization of art workshops, with the creations displayed in government offices. Additionally, the Panch Gaurav tableau should be prepared for Republic Day celebrations. The Deputy Director of Public Relations was directed to disseminate content about Panch Gaurav through films, booklets, and social media, and also explore FM radio promotion.

Departments were also instructed to submit their Panch Gaurav action plans for the upcoming 2026–27 fiscal year.

The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Khanna, UDA Secretary Hemendra Nagar, Deputy Director of Tourism Shikha Saxena, Joint Director of IT Pooja Sahu, Deputy Director of Horticulture Kailashchandra Sharma, Assistant Director CDEO Secondary Education Dr. Dinesh Bansal, and Assistant Conservator of Forests Surekha Chaudhary, along with other concerned officials.
