Udaipur: Anjuman Taleemul Islam, Udaipur, under the leadership of its President Mukhtar Qureshi, submitted a memorandum to the Excise Officer S. Sangawat on Wednesday, addressed to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, demanding that Eid-Milad-un-Nabi be declared a dry day across Rajasthan. The delegation highlighted the religious significance of the occasion and explained why declaring a dry day on this sacred day is essential.
Anjuman Secretary Mustafa Sheikh stated that on the auspicious birth anniversary of Prophet of Islam Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), the sale of liquor should be prohibited throughout the state to preserve the sanctity, spirituality, and dignity of the holy occasion.
Joint Secretary Architect Izhar Hussain pointed out that the government has declared dry days on major festivals of other religions as well. In keeping with the tradition of equality and equal rights, he said, Eid-Milad-un-Nabi—considered one of the most important days in Islam—should also be declared a dry day to ensure equal treatment of all religions.
A large number of Anjuman cabinet members, general house members, and respected and responsible citizens of the city were present and unanimously supported the demand.
Those present included cabinet members Advocate Mohammad Shehzad and Irshad Ahmed; general house members Riyaz Hussain, Mohammad Tahir, Ashfaq Hussain, Umar Farooq, Nasir Hussain; along with Haji Pyara Bhai, Shahid Hussain, Umar Ashrafi, Naushad Diwan, Ahmed Khan, Imran Khan, and many other prominent members of the community.
