Focus on Strengthening Medical Education and Healthcare Services

Udaipur: On the second day of his Udaipur visit, the State Chief Secretary, Mr. V. Srinivas, visited Rabindranath Tagore Medical College (RNT Medical College) on Saturday morning. During his visit, he inspected the Super Speciality Hospital and the Trauma and Surgical Emergency Unit. He also interacted with the medical college faculty and invited suggestions to further strengthen healthcare services in the state, while emphasizing the importance of research.

### Review of Initiatives and Hospital Facilities

The Chief Secretary arrived at the RNT campus around 8:15 AM. Divisional Commissioner Ms. Pragya Kevalramani, District Collector Namit Mehta, and other officials were also present. He was welcomed by Medical Education Commissioner Naresh Goyal, Medical College Principal Dr. Rahul Jain, and former Principal Dr. Vipin Mathur.

Officials briefed him about the cleanliness initiative “Mera Aspatal–Meri Zimmedari” (My Hospital–My Responsibility) and the Rapid Referral Redressal System (SETU), designed to assist patients referred from peripheral areas. The Chief Secretary appreciated both initiatives, describing them as highly beneficial for patients.

He also visited the Neurology and Gastroenterology wards, interacting with patients and their families to gather feedback on treatment quality and hospital facilities. Later, he inspected the Trauma and Surgical Emergency Unit.

### Emphasis on Research and Academic Development

At the academic building, the Chief Secretary held a meeting with heads of departments and senior professors. He stressed the need to further strengthen medical education and healthcare services. He highlighted the importance of establishing a high-quality library and promoting advanced research.

He suggested appointing a Dean of Research and encouraged faculty members to publish more papers in indexed journals. He added that doctors with a strong publication record would be given opportunities to attend international conferences. Departments actively engaged in research may also see an increase in postgraduate (PG) seats.

He assured that vacant positions in the medical college would be filled soon. Additionally, he proposed establishing permanent study chairs in collaboration with corporate institutions such as Hindustan Zinc Limited and RSMML, enabling renowned national and international doctors to contribute to research and academic excellence.

### Other Key Suggestions

The Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of quality nursing care. He also appreciated the proposal to extend OPD hours and introduce evening OPD services.

It is noteworthy that Mr. V. Srinivas served as Deputy Director (Administration) at AIIMS, New Delhi, from 2014 to 2017, where he successfully implemented e-governance and the Digital AIIMS project, making the institution fully digital. He suggested implementing similar digital systems across all medical colleges in the state.

### Institutional Requests

Medical College Principal Dr. Rahul Jain requested the transfer of land from the veterinary hospital to RNT. He also informed about the proposed construction of a new women’s hospital building worth ₹120 crore and requested early financial approval from the Finance Department.

The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Pragya Kevalramani, District Collector Namit Mehta, Girwa SDM Avula Sai Krishna, Medical Education Commissioner Naresh Goyal, former Principal Dr. Vipin Mathur, MB Hospital Superintendent R.L. Suman, along with additional principals and all department heads of RNT Medical College.
