Women Livestock Farmers Are the Backbone of Milk Production and Food Security

Udaipur: On the occasion of World Milk Day, a seminar was organized on Monday at the Government Animal Husbandry Training Institute, Udaipur, based on this year’s theme, “Honouring Women Farmers.”

Programme Coordinator Dr. Om Prakash Sahu informed that World Milk Day is celebrated every year on June 1 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to recognize the importance of milk and the dairy sector. He highlighted the crucial role played by women in milk production and ensuring food security.

Dr. Suresh Jain, Additional Director, emphasized the need to increase milk production through departmental schemes focused on animal healthcare, infertility management, and vaccination programmes.

Dr. Surendra Chhangani, Joint Director, stated that there is a need to enhance per-animal milk productivity in Rajasthan to strengthen the dairy sector.

Former Additional Director Dr. Sharad Arora and Deputy Director Shailendra Shukla stressed the importance of producing clean, hygienic, and quality milk.

Dr. Dwarka Prasad Gupta, Deputy Director, appreciated the contribution of women livestock farmers and remarked that their role in dairy farming is a symbol of both food security and economic empowerment.

Senior Veterinary Officer Dr. Padma Meel expressed gratitude to Hemant Jain, Senior Sales Executive, Arian Vet Company, former Additional Director Dr. Surya Prakash Trivedi, and Murari Lal Gupta, Senior Veterinary Assistant, for their support and participation.

As part of the celebrations, students of the institute organized an awareness rally to spread information about the importance of milk and dairy farming. They also distributed free spiced buttermilk, lassi, and flavored milk to passers-by as a gesture to promote dairy consumption and awareness.
