Awareness Program Organized at PMCH on World Stroke Day

Udaipur: An awareness program was organized on the occasion of World Stroke Day at the Pacific Center of Neurosciences (PCNS), Pacific Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Udaipur. On this occasion, Dr. Atulabh Vajpayee, Director and Interventional Neurologist at PCNS, shared important information about the prevention and treatment of stroke (paralysis).

Dr. Vajpayee explained that a stroke is a serious medical condition in which timely treatment can save both life and mobility. He mentioned that around 22 lakh people in India suffer from stroke every year, out of which nearly seven lakh cases occur due to blockage in major arteries. If such blockages are removed through the Mechanical Thrombectomy Procedure within 24 hours, paralysis can be prevented. However, only about one to one and a half thousand patients in the country currently benefit from this advanced procedure.

He emphasized that recognizing the early signs of stroke is extremely important. With prompt treatment, many lives can be saved. Uncontrolled blood pressure, diabetes, and smoking are major lifestyle-related causes of stroke. Therefore, managing these conditions and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are essential.

Dr. Vajpayee also highlighted the need to increase public awareness about stroke symptoms and preventive measures. He stressed that timely treatment, along with proper physiotherapy and mental health care, plays a crucial role in the recovery of stroke patients.

He added that it is everyone’s responsibility to stay aware of stroke, identify its symptoms early, and seek immediate treatment. Doing so not only saves one’s own life but also protects the lives of loved ones.

The program saw active participation from PMCH doctors, nursing staff, and relatives of patients. It is noteworthy that PMCH is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a team of expert neurologists to provide quick and effective stroke treatment.
