Udaipur: At the IRIA-2026 National Radiology Conference held in Hyderabad, Dr. Kapil Vyas, Head of the Radio-Diagnosis Department at Pacific Medical College & Hospital, delivered a special lecture on degenerative conditions. The conference was attended by expert physicians and radiologists from across the country.
In his lecture, Dr. Vyas explained that as age progresses, the spine naturally undergoes degenerative changes. Key changes include disc wear, nerve compression, alterations in facet joints, and narrowing of the spinal canal. He emphasized the importance of accurate identification and reporting of these changes through MRI examinations.
Dr. Vyas highlighted that proper interpretation of MRI findings allows doctors to determine the exact cause of a patient’s condition and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. He also warned that incorrect or incomplete reporting can sometimes lead to unnecessary surgery, whereas correct interpretation may allow patients to benefit from medication, physiotherapy, or other non-surgical treatments.
He stressed that the radiologist’s role is critical, as the entire subsequent treatment depends on the accuracy of their report.
