Paras Health Udaipur Sets a New Milestone with Robotic Bilateral Knee Surgery for a 90-Year-Old Patient

Udaipur: Achieving a significant medical milestone, the orthopedic team at Paras Health Udaipur successfully performed an advanced simultaneous robotic bilateral knee replacement surgery on a 90-year-old woman. The complex procedure replaced both knees in a single operation and was completed without any complications, enabling the patient to regain mobility.

The elderly patient had been suffering from severe arthritis for several years and was largely confined to a wheelchair due to chronic knee problems, which had significantly affected her quality of life. After a comprehensive medical examination and evaluation of her overall health, the medical team decided to perform a robotic-assisted bilateral knee replacement for both knees simultaneously.

With the help of an advanced robotic system, the surgical team was able to ensure precise alignment, reduced blood loss, and minimized post-operative pain, which contributed to a faster recovery and helped the patient regain the ability to walk.

Commenting on the case, Dr. Ashish Singhal, Senior Orthopedic and Arthroscopic Surgeon and Robotic Knee Replacement Specialist at Paras Health Udaipur, said, “Age should not be a barrier to joint replacement surgery. With advancements in robotic knee replacement technology, we can now perform highly precise surgeries with minimal blood loss and faster rehabilitation. Although the patient was 90 years old and bedridden, her overall health condition allowed us to proceed with confidence. The robotic system helped achieve optimal alignment and balance, leading to a faster recovery and early mobility.”

Following the surgery, the patient remained medically stable despite her advanced age and demonstrated remarkable recovery. She was able to walk with support on the very first day after surgery. By the next day, she had resumed performing daily activities and was even able to climb stairs, highlighting the effectiveness of robotic-assisted joint replacement even in elderly patients.

This case demonstrates that simultaneous robotic bilateral knee replacement can be a safe and effective option for carefully selected elderly patients when their overall health condition is suitable. Advanced robotic technology allows surgeons to customize the surgery according to each patient’s anatomy, ensuring better treatment outcomes and improved post-surgery knee movement.

The successful procedure also reflects the commitment of Paras Health Udaipur to providing state-of-the-art orthopedic care and improving patients’ quality of life. Regardless of whether a patient is 90 or even 99 years old, the hospital remains dedicated to delivering the best possible medical treatment.
