Rajasthan College of Agriculture Organizes Tree Plantation Drive Under ‘Haryalo Rajasthan’ Campaign

UDAIPUR, India  The Department of Agricultural Economics and Management at Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur, organized a tree plantation drive on Wednesday as part of the Rajasthan government's 'Haryalo Rajasthan' campaign, reinforcing Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology's (MPUAT) commitment to developing a greener and more sustainable campus.

The initiative aligns with the vision of MPUAT Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pratap Singh, who has called for the effective and productive use of every available space across the university and its constituent colleges by transforming unused land into green areas through extensive plantation.

The plantation drive was conducted under the guidance of Dr. G.L. Meena, Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Management. Faculty members, research scholars, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. students participated enthusiastically in the event.

A total of 30 saplings representing five species were planted across the department premises based on the availability of suitable locations. The plantation included 10 custard apple (Sitaphal), five Ashoka, four Arjuna, six Chandni, and five Moringa (drumstick) saplings.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. G.L. Meena said that planting a tree is only the first step, while nurturing and protecting it is the real responsibility. He emphasized that environmental conservation requires sustained efforts to ensure the survival and healthy growth of planted saplings.

Faculty members Dr. Latika Sharma, In-charge of the Agricultural Cost Study Project, and Dr. Hari Singh also highlighted the importance of tree plantation in maintaining ecological balance and combating environmental challenges. They encouraged participants to actively contribute to environmental conservation by planting and caring for trees.

All participants pledged to protect the newly planted saplings and contribute continuously toward the development of a green and environmentally friendly campus.

The saplings were provided free of cost with the support of Shreeraj Singh Jhala, Program Manager of the NGO Jungle (Dharohar). Environmental conservation is one of the organization's key focus areas, and it has set an ambitious target of distributing and planting one million saplings during 2026-27.

Dr. Meena expressed his gratitude to Jungle (Dharohar) and its team for supporting the university's green campus initiative and promoting environmental conservation through community participation.
